Neighbor Eats ("we", "our", or "us") provides a community food-sharing platform that allows neighbors to share, sell, and request food locally. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your information. By using Neighbor Eats, you agree to the terms described here.
2. Information We Collect
We collect information to provide and improve the app experience:
a. Account Information
- Name
- Email address
- Profile photo (optional)
b. Location Information
- We use your location to show nearby dishes and neighbors.
- Location is never shared publicly.
c. Messages
- Users may send messages within the app.
- Messages are stored securely and are not visible to anyone except the sender and recipient.
d. Device Information
- App version
- Device type
- Crash reports (to improve stability)
- Advertising identifiers (for personalized ads, if enabled)
e. Payment Information
- Payments may be processed via external platforms such as Venmo, PayPal, or Cash App.
- In-app subscriptions are processed through Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
- We do not store your payment card details directly.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Create and manage your account
- Show nearby dishes and neighbors
- Deliver notifications for important updates (orders, messages, etc.)
- Process subscriptions and in-app purchases
- Display relevant advertisements
- Maintain app security and prevent abuse
- Improve app performance
We do not sell your personal information.
4. Advertising
We may display advertisements in the app through third-party ad networks, including Google AdMob. These partners may use advertising identifiers to serve personalized ads based on your interests.
Your choices:
- iOS: Go to Settings > Privacy > Tracking to limit ad tracking, or Settings > Privacy > Apple Advertising to turn off personalized ads.
- Android: Go to Settings > Google > Ads to opt out of personalized advertising or reset your advertising ID.
Free users will see ads. Premium subscribers enjoy an ad-free experience.
5. Sharing Your Information
We may share data only when necessary:
- With other users: Only information you choose to include in your public profile.
- With service providers: Such as Firebase (authentication, real-time data) and Google AdMob (advertising).
- With payment processors: Apple App Store and Google Play Store for subscription management.
- If required by law: To comply with legal requests.
6. User Content
When you upload photos, dish descriptions, or other content to Neighbor Eats, you:
- Retain ownership of your content
- Grant Neighbor Eats a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to use, display, reproduce, and distribute your content within the app
- Agree that your content may appear on public-facing pages (such as our welcome screen) to showcase the community
- Can delete your content at any time by removing the associated dish or account
You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to share any content you upload.
7. Data Storage & Security
All data is securely stored and transmitted using encryption. We use trusted external services such as:
- Firebase Authentication
- Firebase Firestore
- Firebase Storage
- Firebase Cloud Messaging
Your data is protected, but no system is 100% secure. We continuously work to maintain a safe environment.
8. Data Retention
We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you services. Specifically:
- Account data: Retained until you delete your account
- Messages: Retained until the conversation is deleted by both parties or account deletion
- Order history: Retained for record-keeping purposes
- Crash reports: Retained for up to 90 days
When you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal or legitimate business purposes.
9. Your Rights & Choices
You can:
- Edit your profile at any time
- Opt out of personalized advertising (see Section 4)
- Request access to your personal data
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Delete your account and associated data

10. California Residents (CCPA)
If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA):
- Right to Know: You can request information about the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you.
- Right to Delete: You can request deletion of your personal information, subject to certain exceptions.
- Right to Opt-Out: You can opt out of the "sale" of personal information. Note: We do not sell your personal information in the traditional sense, but sharing data with advertising partners may be considered a "sale" under CCPA.
- Right to Non-Discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising your CCPA rights.

11. Children's Privacy
Neighbor Eats is intended for users 13 years or older to browse and purchase food, and 18 years or older to sell or share food. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us immediately.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy occasionally. We will notify you by updating the date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we may provide additional notice through the app.
